10/17/2018 0 Comments Advice for next year First you will need to make meetings with each of the principals and talk about the project and what you are planning on doing. You will most likely have to make flyers and keep in contact with the principals throughout the whole week. We were too busy for updates since I was in Soccer and Dane was in Tennis we didn't have time to go to each of the schools and tell them who was winning. You should also make sure that your idea is very clear in your emails so that everyone is on the same page. We struggled to get the main idea down in the beginning but we talked with Mr. Large and he helped us out. Furthermore, we asked Mama Nitas for the pizza and they gave us a great discount. We ordered 40 pizzas half cheese and half pizza and split them up evenly for the winners. We picked them up and delivered them with the help of our classmates.
To collect the money we labeled jugs and ended up having to use some boxes to hold the pennies. We made jugs for each of the grades in the schools. Since the elementary schools were by grade it made it easy to find the winner in the end when we counted the money. However, when we had to find the winners for NPI and NPJH it was difficult because we didn't have the classroom amounts. We didn't think about this until the end... and we tried making a google sheet for each of the teachers to input there total classroom amount. Sadly it didn't work out and nobody used it so we ended up having to email each of the principals at NPJH and NPI and asking them who had the most. It ended up working out in the end but it would be helpful for you to be more organized, wether that is with more jugs or better communication. To get the jugs we called Frey Water Conditioning first to ask them, but they told us it would be expensive to buy the jugs because they didn't have any extras that were already used. Eventually we got the jugs from NPE and Dane's mom. Since she is the principal at Beach Grove High School she had a couple extra. Also Mr. Large might have the jugs in his conference room still so you can ask him about those. Finally, we had to deliver the jugs to each of the schools. So after school one day we made the labels and delivered them since we can all drive. To count the money we went to First Merchants Bank. To make this process easier I would recommend having a few extra people help you to deliver the change to the bank because it was a big job. Since the Homecoming game and dance were on the same night we left the bank after dropping off the money to be counted. Grace and I are a part of student council so we had to help set up for the dance too. I had the bank call me when the money was finished being counted and delivered the check to our administrators before the game started. During halftime they announced our earnings over the loud speaker (with the announcement we wrote). Then all of the student councils members from the schools who participated in Penny Wars met on the field at half time to be recognized.

10/17/2018 0 Comments ResultsThe week of homecoming was extremely busy, but I am overjoyed with our results and the participation of our community! We chose our winners based on who brought in the most money in total. We chose 1 winner by grade for the elementary schools and we had one winner per classroom for NPI and NPJH. The reward for the elementary schools and NPI was a pizza party. But NPJH had their own prize of donuts and orange juice that was arranged by their assistant principal. We made this as a hearty snack for the elementary schools and lunch for NPI. We got the donations for the pizza party from Mr. Hercamp (Assistant Principal).
The winners are listed below with how much they raised: NPE: 4th grade won Sugar Creek: 1st grade Brandywine: Made a donation because they just recently had a fundraiser. NPI: Mr. Nicholson NPJH: 7th grade won With all of the money put together we ended up raising over $2000 which is twice as much as our goal! 10/17/2018 0 Comments Culture of Kindness WeekWe added the Culture of Kindness to our project this year after talking with Mrs. Young (Dean of students). She mentioned this as an idea in our meeting and my group took it on because it was such a great idea! We had dress up days at the elementary schools, NPI, and NPJH this year to represent the Culture of Kindness.
Culture of Kindness Week emphasizes Acceptance of others, Respect for others, Responsibility for self and others, Putting forth our Best Effort/Having a Positive Attitude, and Caring for others. Each day during Culture of Kindness week had a theme as shown below. Monday: Orange/Neon Day - Acceptance Tuesday: Dress Like a Staff Member Day - Respect Wednesday: College Day - Responsibility Thursday: Hawaiian Luau - Best Effort/Positive Attitude Friday: School Pride is on the Rise - Caring 9/20/2018 0 Comments Pitch Day!We pitched our legacy project called Penny Wars to the administration on Pitch day. Penny Wars has been a popular fundraiser in our community for years, so when we saw that this was a legacy project we jumped on it. I worked with my partners Dane Reid, Grace Twyford. We decided to raise money for the Imagination Library because we are passionate about helping others and this seemed like the perfect way to do it! We are currently raising money during Homecoming week, which is the 17th-21st. Since last year they made there goal $500 and they reached it easily we decided to make our goal $1000 dollars this year. We have expanded to all the schools in our cooperation, except for Brandywine Elementary. This year we raised the goal because of the increase in students participating. We learned that we needed to work out more of the fine details in our project and make a more concrete timeline. Overall, the administration enjoyed our legacy idea and has encouraged us to raise the most money possible. 9/20/2018 0 Comments Initial IdeasOur project idea was made when Mr. Large and Dane suggested that we work with Mrs. Young and the Y- Give program, which Dane is a member of. We will give the money to Y- Give and they will donate it to the Imagination Library for us. Also since Grace Twyford and I are part of the Student Council, we knew that advertising the idea around the High School wouldn't be a problem. Finally, we are hoping to raise at least $1000 to donate to the Imagination Library Fund. This will eventually help raise the literacy rates of children entering kindergarten, which is our ultimate goal.
